Anglesea Brewery, Anglesea Street, Ryde, Isle of Wight
Kev Mitchell reports:
The Anglesea Tavern, Anglesea Street, Ryde. Opened in 1845 by William Tarver, he brewed beer from a little brewery at the rear of the premises which was then known as "Upper" or "Little" Cross Street. Tarver recorded as an Ale & Porter brewer in an 1859 Directory.
Edward Sweetman Jnr then took it over and was recorded there in 1877, 1898 and 1906. The pub eventually became a Brickwoods house until taken over by Whitbreads and eventual closure around 2000.
- The Sweetman family were also at the George Street Brewery: Henry Sweetman (George Street Brewery)
- Edward Sweetman also took over the Eagle Brewery: Louisa Lake (Eagle Brewery)
