Louisa Lake, Eagle Brewery, 44 High Street, Ryde, Isle of Wight

Mrs Louisa Lake was recorded as "Beer retailer, brewer & cooper, High Street" in 1855. Then "Brewer and beer retailer" at 37 & 38 High Street, Ryde in 1865.

Louisa Lake's Eagle Brewery was located behind the Eagle Hotel. Mounted on the parapet of the building is a fine carved eagle. The brewery was acquired by Edward Sweetman in 1877 and was closed; Sweetman rebuilt the frontage in the 1890s and incorporated his monogram 'ES' at the top of each of the side pilasters. The hotel is now in retail use.
