Established by Richard Spragg in about 1835. Emma Spreagg from 1875. Registered May 1896.

In 1900 Thomas Peers, previously a grocer, listed in the road.

Acquired by Higson's Brewery Ltd in June 1919 with 5 tied houses, as follows: Cheshire Cheese, Wallasey; Farmers Arms, Wallasey; Pool Inn, Wallasey; Jolly Sailor, Poulton, Plough Inn, New Brighton.

There was a compulsory purchase order in 1921 for road widening and the site is now occupied by shops.
