Developed from the Chequers Inn, owned by the Searancke family from about 1635. Eventually acquired by Pryors of the Baldock High Street brewery, who about 1882 went into partnership with the son of the founder of [[Reid's Brewery Co. Ltd]] London.

Pryor, Reid & Co. Ltd, Salisbury Square, Hatfield, Hertfordshire.

Developed from the Chequers Inn, owned by the Searancke family from about 1635. Eventually acquired by Pryors of the Baldock High Street brewery, who about 1882 went into partnership with the son of the founder of Reid's Brewery Co. Ltd London.

Registered 1893 to acquire Pryor, Reid & Co and Benjamin Young & Co of Hertford.

Merged with Glover & Sons Ltd. of Harpenden 1902 but run separately until sold to Benskins Ltd 1920 for £190,000 with 105 tied houses and dismantled. Offices later used as a bank.
