Oswald Robert Newman traded under his full name from 1874 to 1882, both as a brewer and maltster, but upon his death his Executors ran the business.

For the following eight years his two daughters jointly ran the brewery, trading firstly up to 1887 as I.F.and M.Newman, subsequently as the Misses Newman.

At a similar time a Thomas Beddall Newman was brewing at the nearby village of Great Bardfield also at the Wethersfield Brewery.

In 1886, Owen Newman was listed as a maltster in Rayne also at London Road, Braintree.

The Rayne malting was situated in the lane leading behind the Swan public house, opposite the Cherry Tree.
