Start at Stepney Green Tube Station

Turn right out of the station and start walking west towards the City. This is the Mile End Road and is extemely busy with people and traffic at all time - be cautious.

On the corner of nnnnn street are the remains of Charrington & Co. Ltd. The retail park is on the site of the main yard and the building occupied by Adams the solicitors is the main office,

Return to the main Mile End Road and continue west towards the City.

White Hart brew pub.

Passed the Blind Beggar where the Krays used to drink and walked in one day and sot NNNNNN. Strangely, no one in the pub at the time noticed, what are the chances of that?

Almost diagonally opposite is Sydney Street, where an infamous seige occurred in NNNN. The Black Watch were called in and a small company climbed to the brewery tower to get a line of fire. Stand infront of the brewery and see if you can see Sidney Street.

The gate and courtyard belonged to Mann, Crossman & Paulin Ltd London hospital the elephant man Karl' Marx

Furze & Co. Ltd

Best & Co

Tilney & Co

Truman, Hanbury & Buxton & Co. Ltd

East Wards Emerge from Stepney Green underground station (there is only one way out). Turn right and start walking towards the City. The Gerkin will be in front of you. On your right, almost immediately, is the Anchor Retail Park, opposite Stepney Green Road traffic lights. These are the remains of Charringtons. The main offices remain on the corner, whilst the cask yard, fermenting rooms and the loading bays are now the retail park. Return to the Mile End Road and continue in the same westerly direction towards the City. After you pass the Cambridge Heath Road is Manns St Georges Brewery. The main gate, and emblem are over the top. Next Door is the Blind Beggar pub. Clean and sanitised, it gained its notoritety in 1966 when George Cornell was blatently murdered by Ronnie Kray in cold blood. Admittely, he had just called the most infamous and dangerous gangster of the East End "a fat poof"! On the opposite side of the road is Sidney Street, location of the famous seige. Alegedly gunners were place "in the brewery tower" to get their sights on the extremists who were holed up in a building (now demolished) in Sidney Street. However, as you can see from you current position, there is no line of sight to Sidney Street. But Manns had a depot across the Mile End Road adjacent to Sidney Street which was more ideally position for a view of the incident - an incident attended in person by none other than Winston Churchil himself as Home Secretary. Return to the Mile End Road and continue westwards towads the city. As you get close to Aldgate High Street turn left into Whitechurch Lane. At the end of this road, at the point it meets the Commercial Road, on the left are the buildings of John Furze. Best viewed from the opposite of the road in front of the Gunsmiths Proofing House for small arms. Retrace your steps to Whitechurch Lane and head north, crossing the Mile End Road and entering Brick Lane via Osborn Street. This area has now become Bangla Town and it almost end to end cury houses. Proceed up Brick Lane until Henage Street on the right. Stop at the house next door to The Pride of Spitalfields pub, a noted real ale establishment. This is the brewer's house for Bests. Continue along Heneage Street and ALMA Cooperage

You will pass NNNN Street, the location of the demise of NNNN, number NN of Jack the Ripper's victims. As this was for some time part of the brewery premises, strange noises and sightings have been reported by brewery workers! Emerge back onto Brick Lane. The entire street on both sides is part of the substansive remains of Trumans Eagle Brewery. It is also a hive of commercial activity having been turned into small cafes, restaurants and shops. This is the end of the tour. If my previous reference to Jack the Ripper takes your fancy, turn right into Fournier Street and proceed to the end where the Ten Bells pub is situated on Cmmercial Street. This is where Jack is said to have picked up a number of his victims. You have been warned!
