George Shaw & Co. Ltd, Leigh Brewery, 31 Brewery Lane, Leigh, Greater Manchester.

Founded 1801. Registered October 1866 as the Bedford Brewing & Malting Co. Ltd to acquire the business of R.Guest. William Shaw became brewer and manager in 1866, and eventually became owner of the brewery.

George Shaw inherited the brewery from his father William in 1899, and the brewery became George Shaw & Co. Ltd on 20th January 1902. He built a new brewery at Leigh between 1905 and 1911.

Acquired the Joseph Sharman & Sons Ltd (Bolton) brewery in 1927 with 58 tied houses and 25 off-licences and that brewery was closed.

The business of James Jackson & Sons Ltd of Bolton was also acquired in 1927.

Acquired by Walker Cain Ltd with about 300 houses in 1931. The brewery plant was advertised for sale in March 1933, but the Leigh site continued as an 'agency'.

The brewery buildings were demolished in 2002-2003 despite having Grade 2 Listed status.
