Leicester Brewing & Malting Co Ltd, Eagle Brewery, 51 Upper Charnwood Street, Leicester.
In 1827, Henry Bates was at the Rainbow & Dove, Northampton Square.
In 1864, T C Carver & Co were operating the Northampton Street brewery; and around 1867, Carver & Bates were shown at the Eagle Brewery, Northampton Square. The Charnwood Street area was developed in 1870. In 1877, Frederick Bates was shown as a brewer at 15 Northampton Street, and at the Eagle Brewery, Upper Charnwood Street. By 1880, Frederick Bates had become Bates, Son & Bishell, Northampton and Lower Charnwood Streets.
On 30 June 1890, Bates, Son & Bishell registered the Leicester Brewing & Malting Co Ltd together with the malting business of Needham & Crick, Church Gate, Leicester.
Acquired by Ansells Brewery Ltd. 1952 with about 140 public houses and was closed. Bottling continued to 1960.
Some buildings remain.
