Founded 1868. Acquired by William Henry Apthorpe Jnr. He was son of W H Apthorpe of the Victoria Brewery in Albert Street.

Acquired by Lacon & Co. Ltd in 1896 with over 50 tied houses. Following Lacons' takeover by Whitbreads, the brewery was closed in 1965 and later demolished.
