The Thomas Fowell Buxton Monument, Weymouth
Thomas Fowell Buxton (1786-1845) joined Truman's Brewery in 1811. He was later MP for Weymouth, Dorset between 1818 and 1837. As an MP he worked for changes in prison conditions and criminal law and for the abolition of slavery, and he also opposed capital punishment and pushed for its abolition.
