John Swinn & Sons, Robin Hood Brewery

John Swinn & Sons, Robin Hood Brewery, 104 High Street, Boston, Lincolnshire.
The Robin Hood was owned by Robert Bontoft in 1811. William Smith was brewing between 1835 and 1847.
By 1849, John Swinn was in occupation, having been a brewer at The Hop Pole at 26 Rosegarth Street in 1841. He continued to ca.1876 when the style of the business became John Swinn & Son, John Swinn Junior (born around 1833) having joined the business.
In September 1891, the premises, with its 5-quarter brewery, and 16-quarter malting, were offered for sale. The brewery was retained in the family and the style was again John Swinn with regular advertisements in local newspapers between 1892 and 1896 for his "fine genuine home brewed ales"; but it later became John Swinn & Sons. The Robin Hood was a Batemans house but closed in March 2023.
