James Garland Duffett (Lion Brewery)

James Garland Duffett, Lion Brewery, 181 High Street, Ryde, Isle of Wight.
August 1878: Lion Brewery, High Street. J G Duffett, butcher of High Street, announces that he has acquired the brewery from Mr James Lake. 1879: Mr Duffett acquired the remainder of stock of wines from the executors of W & H Lake, late of the Eagle Brewery.
Acquired by Brickwoods Ltd in 1921.
The Duffetts had a shop at 178 High Street, Ryde, on the same block as the brewery. The shop has 'DUFFETT' lettering on the fascia. The family were also seed merchants, and this shop was probably used for this purpose after the brewery closed.
