Allsopp's and Ind Coope's 'Hand'

The Open Hand trademark was registered by Samuel Allsopp & Sons Ltd of Burton upon Trent in 1876, but it had already been in use at any earlier date. Following the merger with Ind Coope Ltd in June 1934, the subsequent company continued to use the trademark, and when former Ind Coope pubs became a management sector of Allied Breweries, the 'Hand' became widely used, particularly mounted in the ironwork of inn sign brackets.
