An advert from 1902

William James Sayles, The Volunteer, 34 Frenchgate & East Laithgate, Doncaster, South Yorkshire.

Sayles began brewing at the Volunteer Inn in 1890 and continued until his death in 1934.

The East Laithgate premises, which stood about half a mile away, were his bottling store and Crystal Table Water Factory.

His son continued to brew until 1953, when acquired by Tennant Brothers Ltd.
