The brewery in the 1970s

Westoe Breweries Ltd, Dunelm Street, Westoe Road , South Shields , Tyne & Wear .

Founded 1862. Operated by Robert Henderson until acquired by Joseph Johnson in 1907. Registered March 1917 as Joseph Johnson (Durham) Ltd to acquire the business and that of Joseph Johnson Ltd, City Brewery, Durham.

City Brewery closed 1924 and the name was changed as above in 1938. Acquired by Hammond's United Breweries Ltd. 1960 with 83 tied houses and brewing ceased.
