Founded 1848 by George Ward, a beer retailer. Brewing began 1878.

Private company registered 1919.

Acquired by Taylor, Walker & Co. Ltd. 1957 with 31 tied houses.

Repurchased by the Ward family from Ind Coope Ltd. 1960 but it proved not to be a viable proposition and the brewery was demolished in 1962 but offices remain intact.
