Brewery founded c.1840 next to the Borough Arms.
Owned by the Markham and Smee families. Purchased by Alfred Richardson in 1855.
Sold to John Huntley in 1885 then to Richard William Flick late of the Horseshoe Brewery, Banbury in 1898.
Registered in 1906 as Charles Brown & Sons Ltd to acquire his business in Witham, Hatfield Peveral and Maldon.
Failed to sell at auction with two on and 2 off-licences in 1913.
Brewing had ceased by 1929.
