The original Northgate Brewery - on the south side of Northgate Street - is said to have been founded in 1768. The buildings survive here, converted to apartments.

The site of the Northgate Brewery is thought to date from 1837 and in 1875 was bought by Henry Alfred Wadworth, who built a new brewery there in 1885. Registered in 1889 and still operating independently.

In 2020, they announced their intention to move the brewing operation to a new site at Folly Road in Devizes. This site comprises a former book warehouse and brewing commenced here in 2023.
