The Swan Inn, Stanway, Colchester, Essex.

Taken over by the St Botolph Brewery, Colchester in 1830 the premises at the time of sale consisted of a brewhouse, 31' x 17' on brick foundations, a new malt mill with flywheel, a malt riddle, a mash tun of English oak with a false bottom.

There were pumps for lifting hot and cold liquor and wort, also a 65 ft wort trough. The copper held 220 gallons, and the underback held 280 gallons, with two coolers, each of 300 gallons capacity. The Swan Inn is situated on the old London Road beside the Roman stream.

By 1866 it was reported that the "Swan was no longer brewing".

The public house trades today, still rich in genuine internal beams, but it is also resplendent with its weather-boarded "tower" brew house; inside the lower floor indicates the old cellars.
