St Austell Brewery Co. Ltd, Trevarthian Road, St Austell, Cornwall

Walter Hicks was a wine merchant and maltster in 1851 and began brewing in 1863 at the Seven Stars Inn, East Hill, St Austell. In 1867, he purchased the Freehold of the London Inn, where he established a modern steam brewery. This building still stands as Tregonissey House. The site at Trevarthian Road was leased and the new brewery was built in 1893. Registered as Walter Hicks & Company on 17 January 1910.

In 1934, they merged with Christopher Ellis & Son Ltd of Hayle and the company was renamed as above.

Other acquisitions:

Still brewing with 150 public houses. Bath Ales Ltd brewery and its tied estate were acquired by St Austell Brewery in 2016.
