Formed by a merger of Walter Hicks & Co. Ltd and [[Christopher Ellis & Son Ltd]] of Hayle 1934. Walter Hicks was founded as a wine merchant and maltster in 1851 and began brewing in 1863 at the Seven Stars Inn, East Hill, St Austell. In 1867, he purchased the Freehold of the London Inn, where he established a modern steam brewery. This building still stands as Tregonissey House.

St Austell Brewery Co. Ltd, Trevarthian Road, St Austell, Cornwall

Walter Hicks was a wine merchant and maltster in 1851 and began brewing in 1863 at the Seven Stars Inn, East Hill, St Austell. In 1867, he purchased the Freehold of the London Inn, where he established a modern steam brewery. This building still stands as Tregonissey House.
