Walter Hicks was founded as a wine merchant and maltster in 1851 and began brewing in 1863 at the Seven Stars Inn, East Hill, St Austell. In 1867, he purchased the Freehold of the London Inn, where he established a modern steam brewery. This building still stands as Tregonissey House.

The new site at Trevarthian Road was leased and brewery was built in 1893. Part of the pub estate of [[Sydney Hatch, Treluswell Brewery]] was acquired in 1943.


In 1867, he purchased the Freehold of the London Inn, where he established a modern steam brewery. This building still stands as Tregonissey House.
Still brewing with 150 public houses. [[Bath Ales Ltd]] brewery and its tied estate were acquired by St Austell Brewery in 2016.
