Mr Tomlin, The Maltster & Brewer Inn, Billesdon, Leicestershire.

In November 1809, William Webster was running the malt office owned by Mr Tomlin. The latter was shown as trading from the Maltster and Brewer.

In 1811, the Lion & Lamb was for sale with details from Mr White at the Maltster and Brewer. Although Mr Tomlin was still shown there in 1813, the pub was not listed in 1835, when Thomas Penn was the only maltster in the village.

A house called “The Maltings” is still standing at 12/14 Uppingham Road. There used to be a maltings at the rear, but as yet no direct link with Mr Tomlin has been established. There were 14 pubs and beerhouses in the village in the early nineteenth century.
