The first listing for James Pearson is as a brewer and farmer in 1886, but by 1890 he was concentrating only on his brewing business, but by 1902 he is once again listed as a farmer, also maltster.

There are no visible remains of the previous brew house outbuildings, which were "L" shaped to the left and rear of the public house.
