Brewing was being carried out at the Orange Tree public house in 1882, but did so for only some five years.
Alfred Rankin, probably Jabez's father, was a maltster in London Road in 1839.
The Orange Tree Brewery was purchased on 2nd December, 1891, with eight public houses by [[Greene King & Sons Ltd]], Bury St Edmunds.
There appears to be no remains of this public house or brewery.
In 1922 there were three licensed houses around the market place.
