Brewing was being carried out at the Orange Tree public house in 1882, but did so for only some five years.

Alfred Rankin, probably Jabez's father, was a maltster in London Road in 1839.

The Orange Tree Brewery was purchased on 2nd December, 1891, with eight public houses by Greene King & Sons Ltd, Bury St Edmunds.

There appears to be no remains of this public house or brewery.

In 1922 there were three licensed houses around the market place.
