Firkin Brewery, Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire.

A chain of brewpubs initially launched in 1979 by David Bruce. He established an estate of eleven pubs, nine of which had their own brewery. These were usually conversions of former pubs, and were renamed "XXX & Firkin", usually in jokey style.

In March 1988, the estate was sold to Midsummer Leisure, and it then changed hands a number of times until being taken over in 1991 by Allied Breweries, at which time its headquarters were established at Burton.

Following the Allied takeover there was a nationwide roll-out of the Firkin brand; many, however, did not brew but received their beer from another nearby Firkin. All breweries were closed between 1999 and 2000 following the takeover of Allied Domecq tied estate by Punch Taverns.
