The brewery was established in 1840 according to the company's advertising material, John Rose Gould being first listed in 1855.

A partnership was formed between Gould and a Mr Kemp and they traded under their joint names until 1877.

They sold the business to Harry Beachamp Yerburgh who continued trading in his name to 1895, when he sold out to another partnership, C.W.W. Roberts and J. Pearson. This name was in use for three years until sold once again to McMullen & Sons Ltd. Hertford, in 1907.

A price list of 1911 advertises the Epping Brewery "Invigorating Stout and bottled Ales" under the McMullen and Sons Ltd. name and trademark, with "Farmer's Ale" guaranteed for nine months. McMullen's continued to use the premises as stores until at least 1937.

There are no longer any remains of the brewery.
