Charles William Death was brewing in 1902 up until 1906 when he sold the concern to Edward Ernest Smith. This small business continued for another four years.

The unusual surname of Death suggests that there may well have been a connection with the Waltham Abbey business at the Ship PH in Sun Street with a family of the same name.

The brewery is marked on the Ordnance survey map for 1897; the buildings remain extant in Huxtables, Lane, in use as a private residence.
