Takeover trail:
- They acquired the Blackburn Brewery Co. Ltd in 1928 with over 100 houses. Brewery later used as a bottling store.
- John Mercer Ltd, Plough Brewery, Adlington was taken over in March 1929. Brewing ceased 1936.
- They acquired the Kirkstall Brewery Co Ltd of Leeds in 1936 with 83 public houses, although Kirkstall Brewery was later sold to Whitbread.
- Richard Seed & Co. Ltd of Radcliffe was acquired in 1938 with 60 houses and brewing ceased.
- Jonas Alexander & Sons Ltd of Kendal was acquired in 1947 with 31 tied houses. The brewery closed in 1951.
- They acquired J.Hamer Ltd of Bromley Croass in 1951 with 42 tied houses.
- W T Settle of Bolton was acquired in 1951 with 5 pubs and 3 off-licences.
- Crown Brewing Co. Ltd (Bury) was acquired in 1959 with 127 public houses and brewing ceased.
- In 1959, they also acquired Glasson's Penrith Breweries Ltd with 110 tied houses.
- The pub estate of Selby (Middlebrough) Brewery Ltd was acquired in 1964.
Dutton's was acquired by Whitbread & Co. Ltd in 1964 with 784 tied houses. Name changed to Dutton’s Brewery Ltd in 1966 and was operated as Whitbread West Pennines Ltd until closed in 1978.
