The pub is thought to date back to the eighteenth century. Charles Edward Bolton was listed as the brewer in 1876-81; however, the 1891 census listed only a Georgina Bolton living on Main Street. She was described as the head of household, which suggests that her husband had died and they had left the pub.

All Saints Brewery Co. (Leicester) Ltd bought the pub in July 1897, but only sold the brewing plant in 1916.
