Cardinal Clarkson, Malting House and Yard, Off High Street, Wivenoe, Essex.

Brewing was taking place prior to 1759 when Cardinal Clarkson joined the army. He was succeeded by Samuel Winch.

John Bawtree purchased the brewery from S.Winch and married a local girl in 1759, he was no doubt closely related to the Colchester Bawtree family who owned the St Botolph Brewery, see:- St Botolph Brewery.

John died in 1772.

The bank at Wivenhoe in which he also had an interest, Messrs Mills, Bawtree and Co, failed in 1891, although the Bawtree family had banking interests in Colchester in 1855.
