When the North British Railway relinquished those premises, he built a new brewery at Gorgie in 1893. Bernard's Ltd. was liquidated in 1904 and brewery sold to Lothian Distillery Co. Ltd. [[Caledonian Brewing Co. Ltd]], Slateford Road.

Brewing commenced 1987 in old [[Lorimer & Clark]] buildings. In 2004 Scottish & Newcastle, having decided to close the Fountain Brewery, took a 30% share and contracted for the brewing of their beers.
