Thomas Froggatt established the Ash Inn and brewery in 1820. James Chetham brewing here in the 1890s.

This home brew house was bought by Daniel Clifton & Co. Ltd in July 1899 and brewing ceased. The pub was rebuilt as the Ash Hotel in 1901. It closed in 2011 and became a cafe and then apartments.
