AN INDEPENDENT family-run Winchester brewery has celebrated its 10 year anniversary - by organising a party in the actual brewhouse.

The event, which took place on Saturday, September 24, was attended by a mix of loyal customers, publicans and friends, as well as those who had never been to the brewery before.

Standing amongst the vats, casks and bottles at its Winnall base, invitees were offered a drink of Alfred's trademark Saxon Bronze, Dom Boc or lemonade, as well as an array of snacks.

Those new to Alfred's were given a tour of the premises, learnt the science behind the brewing and also sampled the malt that goes into making the products.

As previously reported by the Chronicle, the brewery estimates it has brewed 1,260,000 pints in the last decade.

Reflecting on 10-years of business, brewer Steve Haigh said: "The last 10 years have flown by, from our humble beginnings on a tin pot brewery to the shiny stainless steel you see today. I am proud of the quality of our beer, the history of brewing in the city and hope to brew many more pints in the future!"
