Founded 1801. Registered October 1866 as the Bedford Brewing & Malting Co. Ltd to acquire the business of R.Guest.

George Shaw inherited the brewery from his father William in 1899, and the brewery became George Shaw & Co. Ltd on 20th January 1902. He built a new brewery at Leight between 1905 and 1911.

Acquired by Walker Cain Ltd. with about 300 houses in 1931.
