Groves & Sons Ltd

John Groves & Sons Ltd, Hope Brewery, Hope Square, Weymouth, Dorset.
Founded 1840. The Hope Brewery was rebuilt between 1903 and 1904. The splendid new brewery building was designed by architects Arthur Kinder & Son, a celebrated practice from the City of London, specialising in breweries. This is the imposing building still dominating Hope Square.
Acquired by Devenish & Co. Ltd in 1960 with 115 public houses. The coppers and double-drop tun room were preserved as part of the Timewalk visitors exhibition (now closed). However, there are plans to redevelop the site for residential and other uses.
