In 1847 this was owned by Benjamin Smith & Sons, the successors to William Nell. It has always seemed probably more than a coincidence that there was a Benjamin Smith at the Waterloo Brewery in Stockport and one of his relatives, also called Benjamin Smith, later became manager of the Britannia Brewery. Benjamin Smith & Sons are listed 1848-1856. The connection, if any, between Benjamin Smith & Sons of the Britannia Brewery and Benjamin Smith & Sons (later Henry Smith) of the Waterloo Brewery, Hall Street, Stockport still needs to be established.

All debts due and owing to and by the said late firm, will be received and paid by the said Benjamin Smith and Thomas Samson Smith, by whom the business will be conducted as heretofore, under the firm of Benjamin Smith and Son.
