Scottish Brewers Ltd were formed in 1931 as a result of a merger between:
- William McEwan & Co. Ltd, Fountain Brewery, 190 Fountainbridge, Edinburgh
- William Younger & Co. Ltd, Abbey & Holyrood Breweries, Edinburgh
Thomas & James Bernard Ltd of Edinburgh were acquired in April 1960 and that brewery was closed.
In 1960, they merged with Newcastle Breweries Ltd to form Scottish & Newcastle Breweries Ltd.
