Zeph M Brown, George & Dragon, Fenny Compton, Warwickshire.

The Brown family were brewing here by 1875, at the rear of the pub. Z M Brown was bankrupt in 1898 and by then brewing may have been transferred to Banbury.

The pub is still trading with some buildings remaining.


Zephaniah M Brown & Co. Ltd, Horse Shoe Brewery, 44a Parson Street, Banbury, Oxfordshire.

Founded by Richard Guest Brown and was acquired by Z M Brown 1892.

The Browns were a brewing family from Fenny Compton in Warwickshire. Registered January 1897 to acquire the business of Richard William Flick, Horse Shoe Brewery. The Flicks were brewers from East Anglia.

Brewing was concentrated at Banbury in January 1898. Ceased brewing and was wound up in 1903 with 10 houses.
