Formerly a Phoenix Brewery Co. Ltd (Heywood) house. The pub is on or adjacent to the site of Brierley's Woolpack Brewery Ltd, which Phoenix took over in 1898. The pub appears to be a new-build by Phoenix in the early 20th century.
