Founded c.1884. Registered 1918. Acquired by [[Matthew Brown & Co. Ltd]]. 1919 with 28 public houses.
Listed between 1873 and 1884 as Peter Howard & Co, Preston Brewery, Croft Street.
 
However, there is a suggestion that Croft Street was in fact the bonded stores for their wine and spirits business.  
 
Also there is some connection with Walter Clarke & Co who traded in 1887 as the Preston Brewery, Euston Street, since that site was a grocer’s store included in the property transfer.  
 
On 1st March 1917 William Sharples died in 1918 and firm registered at that time by his widow Elizabeth.  
 
Acquired by [[Matthew Brown & Co. Ltd]] 1919 with 28 public houses.

Brewers Journal 1888 p420 Howard Bros partnership dissolved, William Howard continuing at Syke Street. In the 1894 Preston Brewery Co Ltd was for auction 6qtr plant 30 qtr malthouse
 
On 1st March 1917 William Sharples died. Home Lune Street? In August 1918 a limited company formed with capital of £20,000 run by Elizabeth Sharples. Browns bought with 28 licensed houses in December, said to have operated for around 30 years.
 
There may possibly be some connection with 1887 Walter Clarke & Co traded as the Preston Brewery, Euston Street.

William Sharples Ltd, Croft Street, Preston, Lancashire.

Listed between 1873 and 1884 as Peter Howard & Co, Preston Brewery, Croft Street.
