William Whitmarsh bought William Jepson's Free Trade Brewery in 1852 and built the South Street Brewery on the site.
Registered October 1895 to acquire William Whitmarsh & Co, Earl Street and John Watson & Co, Spring Lane, with a total of 140 houses.
Acquired by Duncan Gilmour & Co. Ltd. in 1906 and brewing ceased 1915.
