Founded 1865 when George Newton leased the Phoenix Brewery, York Street. Moved to the Crown Brewery in the early 1870s.

Acquired by George Walker & Co. 1884.

Registered 1886.

9 public houses and beer houses, 1 club and 10 off-licences were sold by auction on 3rd November 1922 and brewing ceased.
