Truman, Hanbury & Buxton & Co. Ltd, Black Eagle Brewery, 91 Brick Lane, Stepney, London E1.

Black Eagle Brewery built by Thomas Bucknall in about 1666 and it was acquired by Joseph Truman in 1679.

Acquired Phillip's Brewery, Burton-on-Trent 1873 and brewed there until 1971. Registered January 1889.

Acquired by Grand Metropolitan Hotels Ltd. 1971 and was merged with Watney Mann Ltd. 1974. Name changed to Truman Ltd. 1971. Brewing ceased 1989. The site remains an assortment of commercial buildings.


Truman, Hanbury, Buxton & Co. Ltd, Black Eagle Brewery, Derby Street, Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire.

Established by Phillips Bros. of Northampton between 1860 and 1865. Bought by Trumans 1873 and rebuilt. Closed 1971 and 73 houses sold to Courages. Demolished 1972-3.
