In 1855 Porter Willis is listed at "Sherne Hall", as a brewer, maltster and farmer, but in 1874 it is known as "Sheering Hall", which by 1886 was owned by Arthur Capel-Cure.

In 1890 there was a brewing partnership between Alfred Willis and Thomas George Brunwin, which was to last to 1898 when Thomas G.Brunwin continued as sole owner and brewer at the Sheering Hall Brewery, until operations ceased in 1906. The brewing was more than likely only for the farm estate workers, but due to the size of the estate brewing was prolonged beyond that of similar home-brew establishments. The farm house, outbuildings associated with the brewing and malting of the past, is now owned by the Stevenson brothers now trading as farmers, G.A. Stevenson Ltd.

The old malthouse is still discernable with its end lucarne, and the smaller attached brewhouse at one end. (It should be noted that there is also a Sheering Hall in the parish of Sheering, near Harlow). Sold to Thomas Francis Adams c.1898. (of the Halstead Brewery), with T.G.Brunwin presumably continuing as brewery manager.

There was one public house, The Spread Eagle Little Bardfield, which was purchased by Porter Willis on 29th September, 1884, from the Reverend H.P.Marsh. On 29th December 1888, George Alfred Brunwin sold it to Thomas George Brunwin and Alfred Willis Brunwin. G.A.Brunwin was the son -in-law of Porter Willis.
