Jeremiah Norton, The Swan Public House, High Street, Maldon, Essex.

Earliest records date back to 1737.

On 12th September, 1768, Robert Salmon and his wife Mary, mortgaged the premises previously known as The Crown, in which reference is made to "Brewhouses", to Jeremiah Norton.

Alfred Busbridge was born in 1777 and was a maltster in the High Street with his father Thomas Busbridge, the licensee of The Swan from 1793 to 1824. Thomas' wife Sarah took the license until 1832. From that date there was a short lived brewing partnership, Busbridge and Richard which had ended by 1839, when Charles Parker of Springfield Place, Chelmsford was the owner.

In 1845 Alfred Busbridge purchased it for £987 and sold it four days later to Chelmsford Brewery (Wells & Perry) Ltd, Duke Street, Chelmsford. They in turn sold it to Gray & Sons Ltd on 17th August, 1906.

It is reasonable to assume that brewing ceased when The Swan was purchased by Wells and Perry in 1845.
