Brewery Road was a narrow road linking the main East Street with New Road, and when the brewery was built prior to 1897, the population of the town was very small. Stone and Sons continued their trade, father and sons, up until 1934, when upon the death of the founding father, Frederick George Stone carried on right up to 1950.

At this time his business was bought out by Tollemache Breweries Ltd., Ipswich, Suffolk.

The quadrangle of plain buildings are now used by The British Legion, with a small section of second floor having been demolished. Brewery Road has now been renamed The Chase.

Yeast was supplied by Gray & Sons Ltd, Springfield Road Brewery, Chelmsford.
