Smiles Brewing Co, Colston Yard, 6-10 Upper Maudlin Street, Bristol, Gloucestershire.

Founded by John Payne in March 1977 at Bell's Diner, York Road, Montpelier. Moved to Colston Yard in 1978 and the name was changed as above in 1981.

A management buyout in 1991 resulted in the company rapidly expanding to own at least 17 public houses. Most of these pubs were then sold to Young & Co (Wandsworth) as the business once more concentrated on brewing.

Taken over again in late 2003. Underwent a restructuring late in 2004 which resulted in brewing being contracted out by a new Smiles Brewing Co Ltd to Highgate & Walsall Brewery Co. Ltd.

The brewing equipment was removed from the old Brewery Tap which is now owned by Butcombe Brewery.
