Founded in the 1730s when it was owned by John Thurgood. Leased by the Pryor family 1775 before buying it outright 1799, and owned it until 1853 when it was bought by Joseph & Thomas George Simpson, nephews of John Phillips of the Royston Brewery.

Simpson's Brewery Ltd, High Street, Baldock, Hertfordshire.

Leased by the Pryor family 1775 before buying it outright 1799, and owned it until 1853 when it was bought by Joseph & Thomas George Simpson, nephews of John Phillips of the Royston Brewery.

Private company registered March 1935. To avoid death duties sold to Greene King & Sons Ltd. 1954 for £525,000 and was closed 1965.
